The tectonic unit of Koziakas mountain along with the ophiolitic rocks are tectonically placed towards the west on the Tertiary flysch of the Pindos zone, forming the Koziakas thrust fault zone. Koziakas thrust fault zone is showing the very characteristic direction of compression during the final stage of the Alpine orogeny and emergence of the Hellenic mountain range. On the eastern part of Koziakas mountain, the unit is overthrust by ophiolitic melanges and a significant ophiolitic mass, originating from the Subpelagonic Zone which is located just further east.
