ROUTE Holy Monastery Metamorphosi Sotiros – Holy Monastery Varlaam

This route is of great interest since it starts from the central square of Kastraki and crosses the centre of the Meteora rock complex and ends at two of the most important monastic complexes of the wider region, that of I.M. Metamorphosis of the Saviour (Megalo Meteoro) and I.M. Varlaam. The visitor through this route has the opportunity to see most of the monasteries as it has many ideal spots for taking photographs. In addition, there is a crossing right under an old ruined building. Meteora’s ruined hermitage with the characteristic name “Agios Georgios Mantilas”. It is a cave, a former ascetic cave, at a height of 20 meters, where every year a very interesting traditional custom of the region takes place.
